The first thing i thought after seeing a pair of well worn APC’s were why did this muthafucka cost so much? I’ve never been a denim fan. All i do is go to Forever 21 or Gap and pick out a pair that fits and that’s it. I decided to do a little research and find out why people decide to spend their hard earned money and pay an average of $150 on a pair of jeans. Raw or selvadge jeans is jeans in its raw state, a type of denim which forms a clean natural edge that does not unravel. It is commonly presented in the unwashed or raw state. Typically, the selvage edges will be located along the out-seam of the pants, making it visible when cuffs are worn.

Apart from the fact that raw selvadge jeans are in their raw state, the edges of raw selvadge will never fray like your regular denim. This is because they are made on separate looms. With the high demand for jeans, and the great amount of time put into making them ,the selvadge kinds were not produced as much. It’s raw state (mostly from overseas), multiple dips to get you the right color, the ample time over the loom (old style shuttle), a few of the reasons why Selvadge brands like APC, Suagr Cane, Nudie, PRPS, Sling & Stones, RRL cost soo much. It really is a matter of quality over quantity plus there’s a great feature to owning a pair of raw selvedge denim. You create your own wash,meaning you break into the pair and create the wonderful creases and natural fade aways on your own. This is usually achieved in 6 months-1 year or more. I hear selvadge denim also gives you a custom fit,it actually falls in shape according to your body. if its true,that’s an amazing feature.
